How to setup default address in cPanel?

Sometimes, people want to send you an email, but they use the wrong email address or simply mistype it, in such cases, emails are most likely lost, but cPanel offers an option, which will help to catch all such unrouted emails.

In order to create a default address (catch-all address) for all the unrouted emails that are sent to your domain, follow the guideline:

First, you need to connect to your cPanel dashboard, which you can do by following steps:

  1. Log in to your account in our Clients Area: https://billing.hostens.com/clientarea
  2. Choose your Web Hosting(cPanel) service;
  3. Press the button “Access Control Panel” on the left menu and then the button “Click here to access control panel“.

Choose “Default Address” from the “Email” section. You will be presented with options to create your default addresses.

Under the “Send all unrouted email for the following domain:” select the domain (for example gie.hamster.tips). All the unrouted emails for these domains will be routed to your chosen mailbox.

When you choose the domain, you will have to choose what will be done with unrouted emails. By default, all the unrouted emails are discarded, but you can choose the option “Forward to Email Address” and enter the mailbox, which will instead get all the unrouted emails. Once you enter the preferred mailbox, press the “Change” button to save the settings.

That is it, all the unrouted emails will be redirected to the mailbox, you chose, so you will not ever miss any email sent to any mailbox with your domain, even if it does not exist.

Note. There is some advanced option, which you can explore under the “Advanced Options” button, but we will not get into details here.
